Thanks for the Couch to 5K link — timely! I just decided that one of the things I want to accomplish is a triathlon — but I need to start slow and a 5k will be my first race. One of my to-do items for today was to develop a training plan. And there you gave me the link — done! :-)

It’s funny that you covered questions about calculating points for recipes, because I spent several minutes last night trying to explain to my husband the difference I’m seeing in the recipe building tool on WW’s site versus the way I used to calculate the points for recipes.
I used to do it one of the ways you mentioned, by adding the values for each individual ingredient, getting a total, and splitting it into portions. Now I use the WW recipe building tool, and it seems to take the nutritional information for each thing, totalling all the ingredients (giving me a point total for the recipe), and then asks me how many servings it is. Then, as much as I can understand about their explanation, they must divide the nutrition (not total pts) by the servings and calculate the values for each portion.
It’s rarely a clear-cut 24 pts/4 servings = 6 pts. or whatever. It’s usually not an exact division, which leads me to believe that it goes back to the bare nutritional values and then divides (especially if you’ve got 0 point items that have calories). I’m just glad it works the way it does, so I don’t have to fill sheets of notebooks with my calculations. :)
I’m starting the C25K on Monday and I’m happy to hear you say pretty much the same things I’ve been reading about how to get started. Have a great day and thanks for all the yummy recipes, too!

Roni I love your videos. I get so excited when a new one appears. People ask the best questions and you always have really great answers…you can tell that you think about the answer and share from your heart and your experience with different things. I can not wait to see the next one.

So glad that I can listen to the podcasts when I’ve got time on my hands whether thats in my jeep on the way to get groceries or if I have nothing to do at work -P

Roni,
Love your site and your videos!
As for starting out running, interval training is a great way to go! I talk about it in my blog for those interested. Pick version: interval running is a combo of running and walking in which you slowly change up the amount of running and lessen the amount of walking as you built up your endurance and abilities.

Hi Roni!
Thanks for the information about where to input recipes to get nutritional information! I also like to cook and come up with new recipes, but it is frustrating to not know just how much damage I’m doing to my points total! Is a site like Nutrition Data free to register and use? I went to sign up but I couldn’t tell, so I didn’t click yes.
Thanks so much!

thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU for verbalizing your view on WW points! I have felt the same way for a long time. They are really just a guideline or frame of reference allowing us to become more aware of what we put into our mouth over the course of a day and form new, healthy habits. The obsessiveness over points, down to point fractions would make me insane! I stay very general with my point values, and it allows me the freedom to not “sweat” the journey I am on to a healthier me. I don’t think I could stay OP if I obsessed about it like that.
But that’s just me.
