Warning: Bragging Mom post ahead!! Do NOT read if you can’t stomach a mom bragging about her son.

The toddler eating breakfastThere he is, the toddler in all his morning glory. He is the reason I changed my lifestyle and perspective on health and life. He is my ultimate motivation and inspiration. And I am proud of not only the breakfast I have made for him but for the fact that we ate it together.

Studies show numerous benefits when it comes to eating meals together but most people focus on dinner. I say let’s combine the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day with family time and make breakfast a non-negotiable commitment to a healthier lifestyle.

This morning we each ate a 1 egg omelet. I paired mine with a whole wheat English muffin while the toddler enjoyed a leftover whole grain waffle (made from this pancake recipe) toasted right out of the freezer topped with low sugar jelly. We are out of produce as I haven’t hit the grocery store yet so our normal addition of fresh fruit was supplemented with a little watered downed 100% juice and I had some nice green tea.

Really I don’t think I could have started my day any better!

It’s posts like this, Roni, that inspire me to live better so that my daughter lives better! Thanks for keeping me on track!

  2. Brag away! I completely agree that people need to eat more meals together and not just dinner. :)

I wish I had known what I know today, when I was raising my 2 sons. But now I can feed my grandchildren healthy foods, and my sons have since learned about nutrition and realize that they need to feed their children more healthy foods. Although it doesn’t happen all the time, their children eat more healthy than they did. Good for you, Roni, for getting your act together when your son was born!

I know that feeling where your heart is so bubbly you feel like it could pop out of your chest. It’s the best.

    Roni,

What an inspiring post. I could not agree more about eating together. We found that meals were a marvelous time to discover what made our kids tick — what was troubling them or what was bringing them joy. And it does not stop with just having meals together. As you know, we did kiddie things with our kids and we did adult things with them too.

I believe that when kids have to adapt to adult tastes and vice versa, it creates a spirit of unselfishness, and that makes families work well.

Thanks again for a wonderful post.

I love this picture. I love this age. My son is starting to become a stinky preteen, but he’s adorable at his own age! This picture takes me back to such sweet memories.

This is such a motivating topic. I think you summed it up tremendously. And WTG for teaching your child such healthy eating habits.

    Have a great day!

Mommies are lucky to have that built in motivation. I feel the same way. I want to feed my family healthy and be a good example for them. It is the best gift we can give them. Blessed to be a proud mommy!
