The Daily Food Journal Generator _v3
July 20, 2008
The long awaited new food journal is ready!
OK, well maybe I’m talking it up a bit. There’s only been a few of you waiting, ummm, about 2 weeks for it. ;~P
In all seriousness, a few weeks ago, in an attempt to be a bit more accountable, I invented yet another food journal table for my week in weight loss mode. I will be using it again this week for some post vacation journaling. I’m always changing up the format, hopefully making it better, for me, at least. ;~)
So give it a test drive and let me know how it works for you. I’ve tested it on a few browsers but you just never know, so if it doesn’t work correctly please let me know in the comments.
Simply fill out the forms as they appear, scroll down then copy and paste!

Just a quick question…when I was playing around with it…for total it gives NaN (what should the total line give?)

(you can delete this post if you want after you read it…I couldn’t reply to your e-mail for some reason!) I have no idea what I entered! Random items that I could think of just to see it add and subtract to test it out. I tried a couple of different times and got NaN….maybe the browser I’m using? I’m on a Mac and use Camino….

Sorry for all the posts! It didn’t work in Firefox either….except they both worked when I didn’t put an activity in….when I put an activity they didn’t give a total. Maybe that’s a glitch?

Sorry, wasn’t sure what I was doing, but I guess it didn’t turn out just right. Just a practice chart anyway.

Oooooh! I’m excited! I never used your generator before, but this one is so nifty I may have to! Thanks for all the hard work!

No Problem , it was fun for me if you believe it!
No worries - It won’t work in the comments as tables aren’t allowed.

COOOOOLLLLLL!!!! It took me 2 or 3 times to do it right (tired today), but I got it! I journal my food daily on paper, but I am wondering…how do I use the generator daily without having a blog??? This may be a silly question…I am new to the world of blogging. I resisted for so long (I thought it was a totally silly idea to basically make a journal a public thing) and then I started reading them. I have to say they are the most inspirational, most motivational, most educational tools for me on a consistent basis. I find so much more inspiration and assistance from reading other people’s expiences, thoughts, comments and other stuff, than I ever did from forums. So needless to say…I am totally hooked! By the way, I really enjoy your blog Roni and look forward to the posts. Thanks for this generator and I am excited to use it.

Thank you Roni for this! I have been looking for something like this. Question, I follow the core plan, any input on keeping track only of the weekly points?

Hey Roni,
Tried out your food journal. It works, but where’s the line of code that I can use in my blog? I’m not seeing it on the page like with the last food journal generator. When I copy and paste the actual table into my blog, the table doesn’t actually show up, so everything ends up looking jumbled on the page.
Thanks!
On July 21st, 2008 at 7:08 am roni said:
It should be below the table you just made. Scroll down and there “should” be a textarea with the HTML. Try it again and let me know. If there isn’t let me know what browser you are using and I’ll look into it.
Oh! and make sure you add the footer, it won’t give you the code unless you do that!

Oh. My. Gosh! I am so happy I’m practically tearing up. Thank you SO much for this table. It’s totally awesomely great!
On July 21st, 2008 at 12:48 pm Allison K said:
Okay! After a few tests I noticed that the footer of the table doesn’t include the “Weekly Points Used” and “Weekly Points Remaining.” I don’t know if that was intentional or not. I guess this table is pretty Weight Watchers specific. I wish I was a code writing genius like you and then I wouldn’t have to pester you!
Anyway, I don’t think I know how to ask without looking and feeling ungrateful… so I won’t :P
Sorry for the second comment, and thanks again for the new table. It’s incredible!

Glad you guys like it!!
Allison K -
Totally not a problem or a pest. I had fun making it and I appreciate the feedback!
The reason I didn’t put it there was because the table won’t remember how many you used last time. I guess I didn’t even think to add different fields for the weekly points. BUT you can still enter it in the footer. Just type it all out….
Weekly points used: 5 Remaining: 30 Overall: Great Day!
I’ll add that to the sample text!
What do you think?

Roni - anyway to add this to excel or something? At work all day I want to keep track of my points but can’t do it on my blog site as I am monitored for my internet use. I tried the formula with Excel but it doesn’t seem to work. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Hmmmm another challenge! LOL When I have some time I’ll work on an Excel version! Can you tell I’m a HUGE geek. I mean really, who gets excited about programming a food journal in Excel?!? ;~P

Hi Roni,
This is a great tracker and I would love to use it on my blog! How did you make the data table itself? I tried adding the HTML data into my blog and all it showed was that specific “final” chart (not the one I can enter stuff into)… Is there a way to share that? It is such a great tool - thanks for this!
On July 26th, 2008 at 11:44 am roni said:
Josee,
I’m not sure what you mean. You can make one, copy the code and then just edit the text as you go. That’s the only way I can think of. All it is is an html table, which is just text formated a certain way. Does that make sense?
I hope that helps a little!

Hey there. Just an idea for you. Since some of us are using this on our blogs do you think you should add a line that says something like “Made by Roni” or something like that?

Wow! That is totally cool. I just started reading your blog. So informative and motivating. Thank you so much! I am a Lifetime member, re-motivating myself. (I lost 26lbs to get to goal, had a baby years later, and now have 70lbs to get back to goal. :( Feeling like an uphill battle. I will be visiting often.
Thanks again, and you look terrific!!!

Hi Roni! I am loving your food journal generator! I have noticed 2 little things that I thought I would mention to you. One is that when I posted the table onto my blog tonight, there is a huge space between the text and the beginning of the table. It doesn’t show that in the html editor preview section or on the draft page, but I can’t get rid of the space. Any ideas? Here’s the page: http://carolinescommitment.blogspot.com/2008/08/day-2.html
Also, and this is so not a big deal but I thought you would want to know, when you finish the table, the bottom header always adds “in Week” at the end of the text you’ve entered. I just take it out of the html code before I paste it in, but thought I would let you know!
Thanks so much for this. It’s awesome! And I agree with Christy - you need to put in something that gives you the credit for the table and links to your site!
On August 14th, 2008 at 9:28 pm roni said:
Glad you like it. I’m working on link back! It is a great idea I just haven’t had time!
as for you space issue, blogger seems to be adding some code between the text and the table It looks like this “
” You might want to make sure there is no invisible characters between your last word and the table. You may also want to look into the “code” view to remove thise break tags.
Hope that helps!!

Thanks so much, Roni!! I checked the code and there wasn’t any of that code or break tags that you mentioned. It’s not a big deal, but I just thought you would want to know. Love your site!

Hi Roni…do you know where to get a good food journal I can download on my blackberry? That would be a real help!
On September 5th, 2008 at 1:31 pm roni said:
Kelley,
I don’t. :~( My technique is just to email myself in gmail. Every day I have a message called “food journal” and I just keep replying to it every time I eat! Low tech but works great!

I like the 2nd version much better, this one there is no option to copy and paste the code so the rows line up etc..
On October 9th, 2008 at 12:14 pm roni said:
sherice - I’m not sure what you mean, I didn’t change anything about how the code is spresented or copied and pasted?? I just added a more detailed entry system and ability to track activity poiints. Other then that’s it’s the same.

I do not have a blog and don’t know how to set one up or even go to one. I did the steps for setting up the journal and pasted the things to copy into my word program and it makes no sense at all to me. What am I doing wrong? If possible please reply to my e address rather than this page because I am very busy and can’t always get to find time to visit web sites. Thanks.
