One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

FOOD FINDS

Muchas Gracias Taco Bell!

Just by chance the other day the husband wanted to go to Kentucky Fried Chicken for lunch. I told you all, fast food junky, right? Anyway, I said sure and crossed my fingers that I’d have the strength to get something not dripping in fast food fried grease.

The KFC we decided to hit was actually one of those new fangled double joints, with a Taco Bell and a KFC under the same roof. I LOVE this idea as the husband and I rarely agree on anything and the double fast food place gives us the most options.

Anyway, as I scanned the menu to choose the healthiest options I could find, I came across the Taco Bell Fresco menu. Everything looked like pretty good choices! So I took a leap and ordered the Fresco Zesty Chicken Border Bowl. It was a delicious mish mosh of rice, beans, lettuce, chicken and salsa, very tasty and filling!

Coming home I again, crossed my fingers as I looked up the nutritional information. Surprisingly weighing in at 350 calories, 8g of fat and 10g of fiber it was a great lunch choice, only 7 points! For fast food, that ain’t bad! I then proceeded to look up the entire Fresco menu and all the options a very point friendly!

So I added a Taco Bell section to my Fast Food page. With nine options that are 7 points or less, I’ll be steering the husband to KFC/Taco Bell when he has a Fast Food craving in the future! (Shhh Taco Bell’s always been my favorite anyway, I have a soft spot for mexican inspired flavors.)

Sounds yummy! I had no idea. I love Taco Bell, but never let myself go there unless we are on vacation (when all foods are free, right? =).

I think I have a new place to go for lunch today.

Thank you sooo much for letting me know about this! I just started counting points again. I did it when I was in High School and tipped the scales at 300 lbs. I had lost 35 lbs and then quit for some stupid reason. Well, just about 10 years and two kids later I’m back at it. I need to lose about 150 lbs. I’m totaly motivated and I know I NEED to do this. So, I’m always happy to hear about things I can eat outside of home. Thank you so much, you are such an inspiration. :)

Just wanted you to know not to get too excited just yet- I read some disturbing stuff on AOL yesterday and I will post the link for you to see. Apparently places that boast “better” options are not so great after all- Taco Bell fresco menu items are on the list so scroll through the pictures and read up so you will be better armed. It is still a better choice than say a Big Mac but still.

i just tried the fresco chicken taco and it was good! no clue on how many points but dont think its too bad. about 15 years ago taco bell had a low-fat menu in the 90’s lowfat craze and then they took it away, so i’m glad for the fresco menu! also, if you need inspiration to stay away from kfc, just know that literally almost everything on their menu is filled to the brim w/ msg. yuck!

    I love TB’s fresco menu!
Also I like to get the honey bbq chicken sandwich from KFC. Only 6 points and it’s fairly big!

I totally just got that same thing the other day, but they didn’t give it to me “fresco style”. Boo. But, I would get it again with that adjustment.

I was pleasantly surprised when I visited there yesterday and found the Fresco Ranchero Chicken Soft Taco was only 2.5 points. How exciting!! Too bad the tasty Caramel Apple Empenada is 7 points. :)

I haven’t tried the fresco menu at Taco Bell yet, but I’ve been getting tacos at Qdoba and Chipotle with just pico de gallo. Pretty tasty!

Roni – When it comes to the double restaurants, you might want to avoid the Long John Silvers/A&W combo.
