Music, a Movie and a MAC at Midnight
So much for the early to bed concept, it’s just about midnight and I’m up playing with my brand new toy! I can’t believe I’m a MAC user now. Well, almost. I’m still writing this post on my PC but only because the new MAC isn’t completely set up yet. It will probably take me a few day, but I’m super excited!
Besides the new computer, I accomplished a lot today. First the toddler and I had a little fun in the kitchen making fruit kabobs. Then, it was off to the gym where I actually ran for 5K on the treadmill. I’m still in a state of shock! I mean, me, a runner. HA! When did this chubby, lazy computer geek with the short spiky hair turn into a skinny, active MAC user who runs for fun with a long ponytail flapping in the wind?? I mean seriously, it’s just crazy.
Ok, back to these M’s. We covered the midnight, the MAC, the Movie so onto the Music. A few people have asked what’s on my iPod for workouts. WOW that’s tough for me because I have SO much. I could probably do a weekly workout mix post. Hey, w-a-i-t a minute, that’s not a bad idea! I’m not making any promises but when I make a new mix, I try and post it. For now this is my running mix, and I’m happy to report it was just about long enough for my 5K!
Just so you know I always start and end with slower songs for a warm up and cool down.

What's Cooking in my kitchen?

I've recently discovered the amazing combination of cheese and dried cherries. I know, it sounds weird, but seriously… good! The other day I smeared some Laughing Cow Light Swiss on Cucumber slices and then topped with a cherry. It was a fun, sweet twist on standard cheese and crackers. Well, cheese [...] -
If I was a good blogger this idea would have been published BEFORE the Super Bowl not during it. I made these today to have a little fun. Surprisingly, The Husband liked them even though he didn't eat more than one. Why? Because he's strange like [...] -
If you read my weight loss blog you know I'm battling a bit of back and neck pain right now. I'm starting to feel a little better but those first few days where rough. Being the head chef of the household, this meant we ordered in a couple of times. I'm [...] -
I'm LOVING Pinterest! I can just scroll all day long looking at food photo after food photo. I wish I had more time to peruse! (I'm RoniNoone there by the way?) The other day I pinned a Portabello Mushroom pizza and was immediately inspired. It's such a simple idea and so light. [...] -
The other day I found myself craving an Orange Julius. Are they as popular as I think they are? Growing up we had an Orange Julius at our local mall. It was always a treat for us at the end of a family shopping trip. Once I was old enough to be [...] -
So I'm a little breakfast nutty at the moment. Little Bean LOVES eggs and I find myself cooking them more and more. This morning I decided to go super light (after last nights chocolate overload) and it was totally satisfying for just over 100 calories! The trick to making [...] -
A few weeks ago I saw Chef Michael Simon make a raw kale salad on The Chew. He sliced beets up real thin and cut the kale into ribbons. Then made a vinaigrette out of red wine vinegar and olive oil. I was immediately intrigued. So far I've only [...] -
I've had this idea for a quick creamy chicken dish for a few days now. It was time to give it a shot. The whole family LOVED it. I'm not joking. The only complaint came from Little Guy who declared his hate of mushrooms yet again BUT he ate everything around them. Fine [...] -
I made this on a total whim yesterday as I had leftover avocado after feeding the baby and leftover Spaghetti squash cooked from the weekend. I roasted the squash to serve with my Chicken tips instead of potatoes and it was AMAZING! Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked. So I'm sitting there staring [...] -
It's post holiday season. You know what that means? Leftover Crescent rolls to experiment with! Every year for Thanksgiving I buy a few canisters. It's the only time I do as I can't be trusted around them. Let's just say I'd beat you in the How-Many-Crescent-Rolls-Can-You-Eat-In-One-Sitting game and leave [...] -
Last week the kids and I tried parsnips for the first time and I've made them 3 times since. I wanted to figure out the best way to roast them. Yeah, that's it, the best way to roast them. You'll buy that right? Right? The truth is, I'm obsessed. I found myself [...] -
Yesterday just felt like a good day to stuff an acorn squash. I had one sitting on my counter for quite some time and it was just begging to be cooked. Since both husband and child don't like it I made a solo meal just for me and, well, it was DELICIOUS! [...] -
I bought a fennel bulb on a whim for the holidays not knowing quite what I would do with it. Of course I forgot about until yesterday when I was rummaging through the fridge trying to figure out what I wanted to make for breakfast. I pulled it out and stared [...] -
I probably should have warned you I was taking a holiday hiatus. I've been soaking up every moment of family time imaginable these last few days, leaving no time for anything else. Not even blogging! Shocking I know. ;) So I return not with a new recipe, per se, but to [...] -
Here's a quick idea for when you find yourself with a spaghetti squash but don't quite know what to do with it. Come on. Admit it. That's happened to you too. It's sure happened to me! I roasted this squash on Sunday... [...] -
I'm not sure if this will be a crowd pleaser, but I liked it and thought I'd share in hopes it inspires you to have some fun with kale. I loved the combination of sweet pear, earthy kale, salty bacon bits and creamy hummus. The only issue with the wrap was [...] -
I'm going on day 2 of counting Weight Watcher Points and I'm already inspired to come up with light, healthy meals for myself. It's like I needed the constraint of points to motivate me. Isn't that weird? Anyway, all morning I was brainstorming what to make for lunch. I wanted something flavorful [...] -
I have a friend who patiently cleaned, peeled and cubed a fresh pumpkin and then selflessly gave me some. Scratch that, a TON! I would have never even thought of doing something like that! But now that I have it in my fridge the ideas are flowing. First, I roasted some [...] -
CHRISTMAS COOKIES! YAY! Sorry. I'm so excited! Little Guy and I had tons of fun making and decorating cookies today. It may just be my favorite part of the holiday season. I loved it when I was a kid and now I get to do it with my own kids. [...] -
This may be my simplest idea yet, but it was so tasty and satisfying I had to share. Plus you guys know I'm a Laughing Cow Community Leader so I'm all about sharing fun ways to use their products. You guys may also know how I feel about pausing and making [...] -
I made this on Thursday. THURSDAY! I hate when I can't post something I've eaten within 24 hours. It just bugs me. Not sure why, it really doesn't matter when I post it, does it? Anyway, I did whip this up to cure a pizza craving and I couldn't be happier. [...] -
It's been awhile since I jazzed up a tilapia fillet. I've breaded them before, coated them in oats, flavored them like one of my favorite drinks and topped them with a fun salsa. It was time to bring nuts into the party. You are going to think I'm crazy but I've [...] -
Fun leftover turkey idea #2! Click here for leftover turkey idea #1. I had a little Gouda leftover from this years Harvest Salad and decided to put all the same flavors from the salad into a quesadilla. I just can't get enough of the smokey gouda/sweet craisin combo. It goes [...] -
It's the day after Thanksgiving and my refrigerator ROCKS! I have leftover turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, roasted Brussels Sprouts, a bunch of veggies and tons of miscellaneous fun stuff. I've already made stock from the bones (like this) and my first batch of soup, Classic Turkey Noodle. I hope to share [...] -
I'm so sorry I've been slacking in the Thanksgiving recipe department. I feel like a bad food blogger. Everyone else is posting festive ideas and here I've gone missing for a few days. Maybe it's because I'm not doing anything special for Turkey day. I finally got my holiday cooking [...]

Roni, Congrats again on the run…I have been training for a 1/2 marathon since Jan. I have had to change my date of the race due to being sick for a few weeks but I am still running…hear rate is key…find your zone!!
Also, I have been a MAC user for the past 4 years…I wouldn’t have it any other way!! Enjoy the ease of computer work!!!!!
welcome to the mac world! the husband and i both have mac laptops and we will never go back to PCs!
Congrats on the run!!! My first 5k felt like it would kill, it was my very first day of cross country training! You did much better.
Mad World is an amazing song.
Once you go Mac you never go back. Mac’s are awesome. Just make sure to take the time to back up everything. This Christmas my hubby and I both got new Mac computers. Two weeks ago my hard drive just up and quit. I had never backed ANYTHING up. I lost a ton of stuff. I do not think this breakdown is common for Macs. My old Mac is still up and running just fine. But the new one had to take a vacation and get repaired. Thank goodness for the warranty. If you have any questions just post it on your forums…I am sure tons of poeple will answer you.
Congrats on the 5k. That’s fantastic! Running outside is definitely different than running on the treadmill. The treadmill has more cushioning than running on concrete or asphalt, so it’s definitely a good idea to get in at least part of your training in similar conditions to what you’ll have on race day.
Congrats on the Mac, too! I’ve been using Macs for nearly 20 years. I have that same MacBook Pro. :-)
I laugh that people often say to me
YOU SHOULD SO GET A MAC. YOU MIGHT THINK YOUD HATE IT BUT YOUD LOVE IT!!
to which Im compelled to respond:
I KNOW Id love it—you buyin?
congrats on your new toy!
I LOVE your blog! I check it out daily and greenlitebites too-love it! I don’t enjoy cooking bc it’s hard to find healthy recipes but you have made it easier for me!
I’m a runner and it’s an addiction-just you wait and see!
Maybe you can help me. I got scared when you mentioned 6 and 7 MPH. If I do that I struggle. I can jog at 4.5 – 5 and make it through two miles. Is there a target speed I need to be working toward? But I do run faster times outside….treadmills kinda freak me out a little. I know I’m odd….everyone else seems to enjoy them.
LOVE IT! Your music mix that is. You’re as schizophrenic as I am with music! And Debaser is serioulsy my favorite Pixies song. It makes me dance everytime!
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
LOL BACKYARDIGANS?? I actually enjoy listening and watching the backyardigans with my two toddlers. I know what song you are talking about “GO,GO,GO.” It will probably be with me the rest of the day! Great job on the 5K.
we will be mac users for our next computer. I’m jealous!!
Thanks for posting your music mix! I checked out the videos for them on Youtube – love The Cat Empire!
Congrats on your run!
Ok, congrats on the 5K. I have never been able to run for more than 4 minutes but you are inspiring. I have also considered getting a MAC. I have heard from others they are great.
Also, I really do not think I am too much older than you but I have heard of NONE of those artists on your list. I will have to check them out. Thanks for all the great posts, Roni.
aHHH… the Mac… I bought the iMac last year, and I am mad that I never did it before. It’s just wonderful… Did you get the .mac program? I love it. It’s just so simple to use. CONGRATS
Congrats on the run WOW! I was playing around with one of those ipod fitness trainer sites that mixes in your itunes music. I went to set it up and realized I own no big people music these days. I guess big red car might be fun to do on a run and maybe not.
Gotta get some big girl music.
Welcome to the mac world it is awesome.
Yay for 5k! You’ll keep surprising yourself the longer you run, everytime. I am cracking up that you have the Backyardigans on your iPod.
WOW so much fun stuff in this post! Thank you for posting your playlist, I am desperate need of some music that will keep me going in my own training for a 5K :)
Congrats on the run….
did you watch biggest loser…how amazing what those people can do!!!
I blogged again..trying to get better at this :)
Keep up the great work!!!
My DH went MAC last year and says he’ll never go back. He’s looking to get me my own personal one so I can surf the net in bed or on the couch or anywhere! ;)
And my DH is on his 3rd hard drive in a year…but he bought a re-furbished MAC so that may be why…but just to warn you. I’d get the Apple care.
Gotta love The Backyardigans!
I’m downloading it now. :-)
welcome to the Cult of Mac! My partner converted me almost a year ago – and then I got my job to buy me a new MacBook Air.
Thanks for the music listing – I’m kinda interested in trying one of those weight-loss-podcasting-
downloadble-motivational-
whatever-they-are services.
your side bars on your food site are annoying!
Thanks Guys!
Alisha – Not sure what a target speed would be either. I know a nice slow jog is 6. I’m going to try and run the whole 5K at that speed if I can.
Anon – in what way? I just love anonymous, negative comments that don’t offer constructive feedback, only critism.
PS! I’m writing this on the MAC! LOL I am loving it!
