I think we both have to learn that the scale is not the only way to measure success.

AMEN.

and the benefits of the exercise can NOT be beat---even IF without it the scale would go lower...

stating the obvious, I know.

M.

Great job everyone! I need to get back to an exercise regiment as well.

You may not see the numbers you want as quickly, but you're helping to increase your muscle mass, which is great. Your body will become more efficient and you'll be shedding fat at the same time.

Keep it up!

Yeah, I'd be interested in a more accurate but still quantifiable measure of "health" than the scale provides.

Body fat percentage is a good one, but difficult to measure correctly

Hey Roni,

So, since returning from DR...I'm jumped back on the perpetual wagon and I've been counting my points like a savage. I introduced the Couch to 5k program in to my exercise regime and last week was Week Two....and when I hoped on the scales yesterday morning- I was up 6 pounds!??!?! How is this possible? How can a person who didn't eat all of their activity points and had 9 Flex Points remaining....gain 6 pounds? I had only lost 0.4 the week previously...and, had it not been for my 'inner self' talk...I would have went to McD's for a big ol' dirty burger!!! But, I refrained and I didn't give in....I've worked too hard over the last two weeks...and I'm going to work even harder in the following weeks.
I appreciate the question and the answer today- I know I'm not alone on all fronts of the weight loss battle.

Question #2: My week runs from Saturday to Friday...and I don't weigh in till Monday morning...as the lady at work weighs me...could this be a cause to the problem? And, do you think I should be weighing myself on the last day of my week or the Saturday morning?

I just want the scales to go down and I want the clothes to feel loser....help!

Great question and answer. It is so easy to get discouraged, but exercise really is amazing for your body and mind!

I can wake up cranky, but a 30 minute brisk walk with the pups and I am ready to take on the day. (Well, most days!)

Thanks for your response Roni, I have since found that if you keep up the exercising, YOU WILL LOSE BIG!!! I had a good loss a couple of weeks after my slight gain. And the benefits of excercising go way beyond the scale as you mentioned....I feel great & sleep better. Plus I am adding years and health to my life. Honestly, had I been told to expect the gain, it would not have been a big deal to me....but when you have tae bo'd your tail off and worked the plan to the max all week and see the scale go up without knowing what to expect, it can be such a huge letdown! That's why your site is a priceless well of knowledge for some of us. Maybe now someone will read this and know what to expect should they make the fabulous choice to incorporate excercise into their lives. And by the way, your progress is still a huge encouragement to me because you were faithful to the plan for so long...that is hard and an accomplishment in itself! Random: Did anyone ever tell you that you look so so so much like the character "Sharon" on the Young and the Restless? Random I know but you should check her out...it's amazing really. :-)
