Bringing back the Sensational Sunday!

Date January 6, 2008

Sensational SundayIt’s been awhile since I recapped a Sensational Sunday, hasn’t it?  I have some new readers so I’ll quote my original post…

I think motivation is contagious and I think we can start a movement, a movement to begin our weeks, every week, with a Sensational Sunday. If we take just a little time to recognize what we have, where we are, where we’ve been and where we want to be we can set the tone for the week.  I plan to do this every Sunday and I hope you will join me.

So here goes…

My Sunday started with breakfast and some Sunday baking. I think I may make Sunday morning baking experiment day. The toddler had a blast sitting on the island, mixing and sampling the chocolate chips. (I added chocolate chips to my Banana Muffins for some fun)  Honestly, nothing makes me happier then cooking with the little guy.

While the muffins were baking we blasted the radio, cleaned the living room and danced our little hearts out.  Let me tell you, when he was little (I mean barely crawling little) and we would “dance.” I thought wow, what a great workout, I’m jumping around with an extra 20lbs. Well now he’s over 35 pounds and still loves to be picked up and swung around. Talk about good upper body building. Especially after a day of working out!

After all that it was time to take down the Christmas tree. We always wait for the weekend after New Years and normally it is kind of depressing. However, if you have a toddler, the whole experience changes. I think taking it down may be more fun then putting it up! He was so eager to help and everything is a chance to teach and learn. We matched colors, counted ornaments, packed boxes and the three of us totally worked as a team. It was great!

Then lunch and a nap, which brought some relaxing time for Mom and Dad. I could have went to the gym but to be honest I think my muscles need a break. I’m still feeling the ab workout I did the other day and I weight lifted almost every day last week.  No fear though, I plan on going tomorrow and Tuesday starts our Ballroom Dance class!

That’s right!

I forgot to tell you guys in fear the husband might actually read the post and ruin the surprise!

I signed us up for dance class and gave it to him for his birthday.  It’s on our life list and now we are going to do it! I’m so excited. Every Tuesday night until March. How much fun is that?!? I will totally fill you in on Tuesday.

Anyway, after nap we headed out for some shopping and dinner at our favorite local Italian place. I ordered safely, a bowl of soup and grilled chicken salad but I have to confess. I nibbled on the toddlers fries and chicken tenders. Hey, it could have been worse! I mean it was Italian!

Right now I’m fighting the munchies hard, AGAIN! I don’t know what’s up with me. I’m having a “fat” day and I think I’m retaining some serious water. Tomorrow is a new day and back to work. :~( I have to admit, since finals last semester I’ve been loving my time at home, working on my own projects and spending time with the family.  I’m looking on the bright side though. When I get a ‘normal’ schedule I tend to do better in the eating department. I plan more and get into a routine.

I’ll be back tomorrow with my daily journal. I got to shake these munchies and get on the ball! These extra 5 lbs are going bye bye this month!

  1. Hmmm…I wonder if you are either, a. not eating enough at dinner OR b. maybe eating too many hours before bed, in which case a “mini” meal would be in order later in the evening. A lot of times when I find myself with the “munchies” I find that it often has been a long time (more than 3 hours)since my last meal, but I feel like I shouldn’t be eating again. Then in my attempt to “not eat”, I pick…causing more damage in the end then if I had just eaten a “mini meal” in the first place. Afterall, don’t forget Roni – you ARE a gym rat these days…maybe you are under estimating a bit;).

  2. Any time I leave an Italian restaurant without being filled with breadsticks or garlic bread, I feel like a champion!

  3. Even with your later-in-the-day munchies and the nibbles, it still sounds like a great day.

It made me SO happy to hear about you guys dancing. In our family growing up, every so often we’d put on 50’s music when cleaning up the kitchen after dinner. We had SO much fun – those are some of my favorite memories. And doing the twist was great exercise (not that the thought crossed my mind at the time).

  4. I love sensational sundays! I made my own sensational by attending a birthday party for my best friends 1 year old daughter. Afterwards, I ran to the grocery store for my mom who is having problems with her kidney stones. Then, I got home, faced my fear of running at night, and ran 2.5 miles with the dog. Even better, I walked her for another mile later last evening!

The dance classes sound like a lot of fun! I can’t wait to read about them!

  5. Roni,
I found your site about a week ago and I’m completely hooked! I’ve always had an interest in my health, my weight, and food, and it’s nice to find so many blogs nowadays that focus on this too. My blog is in its very beginnings, but I’m hoping to post regularly and I’m hoping to lose some of the weight that has piled on in the past few years. Thank you for being an inspiration and a great source of ideas!

  6. I am no expert (havent even lost my own weight yet) but I was really thinking …maybe you arent eating enough points now that you work out all the time. Maybe you should add more protein in your days now that you are weight training. It might help keep the munchie cravings away. Just a thought. BTW, your bad days are really not bad at all. You eat so well. So dont beat yourself up over it.

  7. Sounds like a great Sunday! Like you I enjoy my “off” time from school and work but the routine and tight schedule keep me OP and I have to admit it keeps me sane!

  8. I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of months.. and you are truly an inspiration.. especially since i have a toddler too…;-) i just signed up with WW! and hope to loose my last 20 pounds… THANK YOU<>>>>>

  9. Just wonderign when it comes to the Banana Muffin Recipe if you have any substitutions for the Molasses in the recipe.
    Thanks

  10. Great attitude. Especially about making each Sunday “sensational” I think very important to not let the monotony of life get to you. I found that I was letting the days fly by without actually stopping to appreciate all that I have. I would go days and days and then on the weekend I would spend time with my husband and I would think – I feel like I haven’t seen you all week. It’s because I didn’t take the time to stop everything else and give all my attention to him (or in your case your hubby & son). It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the everyday-ness of life. Thanks for reminding me to make the most out of each day!!

  11. I HATE those freakin’ fat days. I’d gladly trade two bad hair days for one fat day. They always seem to come directly after I’m feeling fabulous about myself. Our minds are crazy things sometimes.

  12. I’m so jelous! How do I get my DH to sign up for dancing lessons!?! We didn’t do it for our wedding and I’ve always regretted it. Maybe I’ll ask for dance lessons for my birthday…

Taking down my Christmas decorations was depressing for me. No toddler to cheer things up…maybe in few years. It’s so great how you turned it into a learning experience for him! My house so looks bare now, though. I’m going to have to go to Michael’s and make some flower arrangements or something.

  13. Ok-
Unlike all of you dedicated ladies, i am have been trying to get my motivation to start the journey again. I stumbled across this blog about a month ago and have been checking it every week. I thank you for your candid honesty and your love roni’s whit. I am inspired by your story. I too am very competitive, but would rather quit than fail. However, reading about others challenges has made me realize that it is ok to stumble and start again. THank you Roni!

  14. Thanks everyone!

And Anonymous – You could just replace it with honey.
