What’s the 500lb Weight Loss Secret?
December 5, 2007
THE INTERNET, of course.
Apparently, I’m the only weight loss blogger who hasn’t seen the Oprah Weight loss show (geesh people don’t you work?) ;~). I’ve seen post after post about it tonight while catching up some blog reading. Apparently, weight loss blogs are getting some press lately. And so they should be! I’m completely convinced this blog is the a big reason I reached my weight loss goal and have been maintaining it for almost 2 years.
Workin’ It Out said it so eloquently yesterday…
“A journal a day should keep the weight away”
Whether that journal is a notebook, a blog, a message board post, or an email to a buddy, it doesn’t matter! It’s the act of being aware and analyzing what and why you are eating. Doing it online adds the extra layer of support and that doesn’t hurt either. ;~)
I get a lot of great comments thanking me for my honesty (and boy do I appreciate them, they keep me going some days). The truth is, I’m honest more for myself then anyone. If I write down what I ate, why I ate and – pause – just for a minute it helps me recognize my screw up and move on. Better yet, it helps me recognize my successes and celebrate them, something I think a lot of people forget to do.
This is one of the reasons I started the weight watchen community and I’m trying to make tools like the Daily Food Journal Table Generator to help. When you lose weight and reach your goals, you want to let everyone know it’s POSSIBLE! …At least I do.
And… it is possible, it really is! Look at Nancy and look what a little online support can do!
All of that being said, here is my food journal for today. I feel good about today. I weaved cookies and chocolate while still being “good” ;~)

Roni-
Thanks for much for commenting on my first post. It was actually you who inspired me to start blogging. You- along with all the other members of the community- I believe can help to support everyone no matter what their goal is. Your pictures themselves are worth 1000 words for how successful online support groups can be. You are an amazing woman! Thanks so much for all you do!

I hadn’t heard about the Oprah weight loss show either, so don’t feel bad. Way to go in staying OP! By the way, I saw your face smiling at me from the magazine rack when I went to the grocery store. I was like, hey I know her! Well, kind of…. Great job and hope you keep doing so well!

Hehe. I DON’T work, and I haven’t seen the Oprah show. It’s hard to watch TV, when I have kids. Which is good, because I use to be a tv-aholic.
You’re right about blogging and being honest. I’m a constant liar which hinders my weight loss goals. I also discovered that being honest helps me move on.

I don’t think it is pure coincidence that my most successful weight loss journey EVER began when I started my blog and gathered a circle of friends that I rely on as much as my own family. They encourage me, keep me honest, and lend their support every time I need it.

I saw the episoe on Oprah and all I could say was WOW! I only have

Roni, I’ve lurked here for quite awhile…
I just wanted to say thank you so much for all that you do here! This post especially reminded me of how generous you are with your knowledge, and how it has so helped people like me - formerly 193 in February, now 147 and counting…
Thank you for the butternut squash tutorial! I had no idea what to do, and I really wanted to make an Apple-Butternut Squash soup with my Vita-Mix today. I did it! My two-year old swiped the raw chunks off of the cutting board and wandered around the house like a chipmunk. :)
Anyway, thanks so much! I’m always here, reading, being encouraged, cheering you and others on.
(p.s. - I’m a SAHM and I missed Oprah too…) :)

Roni your progress is amazing!!! How did you do it? Are you on Flex or Core? I am new to WW and have lost 6.9lbs since Sept 21st. A little discouraged with this rate. Do you have any advice for me?

I saw the Oprah show… it was actually quite inspirational to me. Made me start my own blog, thinking, okay, that’s accountability for you… might as well hang it all out there… now I’ve got to keep going, no matter what. EEK! What have I gotten into?! :x

Everything you say is so true. Blogging is the one thing in years that has helped me stay focused and losing. I look forward to putting out there how I am doing and reading about and supporting everyone else.

Do you have, or can you create an activity log as well like you did for the food? I’d love that as well! Thanks for the link to my post! I truly believe that journaling is what keeps me on track for weightloss.

I don’t even watch tv, so I am left out of the Oprah thing too. Blogging is a form of journaling and makes us accountable for what we eat, thats why it works. And if you are lucky enough to have other bloggers read your blog and share there experiences, it’s like having a support group. Good Work!
