I am so glad to hear that someone else has heard of green peppers being called mangoes. I have a bunch of recipes that were from my grandmothers and their mothers and in them every reference to a green pepper calls them mango. I was so confused as to why they would put mango into spaghetti sauce and so on until my Mom explained to me that they actually meant green peppers Wish I knew why they called it that!

You have to try making mango salsa (diced mango, diced purple onion, fresh cilantro, fresh minced jalapeno or serrrano pepper, lime juice, salt and pepper. It's great on fish and black beans with brown rice mixed up!

I love mango's. I have eaten them for years. I used to cut them like you do but I was given a mango cutter last year and now use that. It works like an apple cutter, cutting out the seed rather than the core. They can be found at specialty kitchen stores.

I agree with youinkit about the Thai desesrt. There are several Thai restaurants in Fresno and I love this dessert.

I ADORE mangoes! A friend of mine introduced me to them and it was love at first sight. I eat them cut in cubes mixed with cottage cheese or Greek yogurt - or just plain when I want something sweet.

They're not hard to cut - just make sure you know where the pit is.

I love mangos - although I am a virgin at preparing them. We have a produce store by us and you can sometimes get it already sliced and packaged. I just close my eyes and don't look at the $$ for already prepared.

OMG I LOVE mangos an dgrew up eating them. They have always been a favorite. Fresh mango, Thai sticky rice and mango (fattening but YUMMY!), mango popscicles, mango ice cream (try your watermelon recipe with mango). Now I want a mango. That is one fruit that I would love to eat all the time if it wasn't so messy. Hmmm wonder if my mom still has some since I'm headed over there after work :).
Glad you experienced it, I can't wait to see what kind of recipes you find for it!

uuuuummmmm ... mangos are my *favorite* My mom is Thai and she sometimes makes this authentic Thai desert of mango with sweet sticky rice (basically it is a sticky rice with coconut milk). If you have a Thai resturant near you, you should see if they have it and order some (or drive down to Silver Spring and I'll make you some!). The coconut with the mango is so tropical and yummy!

I'm there with you as a mango virgin. I have a few fruits I eat...but they are the staples - grapes, apples, oranges, stawberries, blackberries, and raspberries. That is it for. Peaches and I have a texture issue and bananas are uggggggg I can't get past their smell - but I love banana bread. I need to start exploring some more fruits!!

I am a mango virgin. Well, my MIL--for whatever reason--calls green peppers mangos. Why, I have no clue. SO, for the longest time I thought a mango was a green pepper. I've seen mango margarita's at my favorite Mexican restaurant and the first thing I thought was GROSS--a green pepper margarita! LOL!! SO, no, you are not the only mango virgin. :)
