A Halloween Treat – October 31, 2006
I had to run to the store today to get some extra halloween candy and I was hungry. Not a good combination. While at the check out I can across these little 1 point gems. It satisfied my sweet tooth and saved me from a disastrous halloween splurge.
I didn’t plan at all and, well, today wasn’t my healthiest day but, hey, it’s halloween! Hope you had a good one!

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen/heard of the Hershey’s 100 Cal snacks, but I just got some at my local Wal-Mart. They have a dark chocolate bar, and milk chocolate covered pretzels. The chocolate bar is about 1″ wide and 4″ long. The pretzels come in a pack of two. One bar or two pretzels is 2 points.
Bad Day – October 30, 2006
I got some bad personal news today and it really threw me off track. My husbands company decided they are closing his office at the end of the year. We are dealing with that together tonight and I almost didn’t post. Then I realized this is when I need to post the most. I already felt like I wanted to eat for no other reason then I’m stressed. That’s not a good position to be in. So I decided I will still be accountable and post my points today.
I ended up going to lunch today and splurging on onion rings and a couple of beers. Ouch! I didn’t realize how many points that hour cost me!! No worries I’m moving on.

I Lied and I Gained – October 27, 2006
Well I ended up not having the turkey sandwich last night. Once I made it to the fridge I discovered a Damascus Whole Wheat Roll-Up and then all of a sudden pizza sounded good. So I made that instead. I also had some yogurt and a small piece of dark chocolate. So my daily points for yesterday was about 27.
I guess my punishment for lying to you was a 2 pound gain this week. I’m only kidding but I was a little bummed. I thought I did pretty well this week and I would stay about the same. I’m not going to let it get me down I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing. It’s been working so far. ;)

Weird Day – October 26, 2006
OK, It’s about 8:30 PM and I’m hungry but I don’t want to eat. I know that makes no sense and I KNOW people are rolling their eyes at me right now. But seriously, I’ve eaten 17 point so far and I feel hungry but nothing sounds good. I’m going to have to raid the cupboard or make something up. All my old standby snacks just aren’t going to hit the spot.
Actually now that I’m thinking about it a sandwich is starting to sound good. I think I’m going to make a turkey sandwich on one of those bagels I have. Yup that’s it! With a pickle on the side! Ok I’m off to make it. :)

Out to Lunch – October 25, 2006
I went out to lunch today and ordered a veggie quesadilla from one of my favorite restaurants. It’s a HUGE serving and I’m estimating the points at 8 but honestly I have no idea how many. Here is my "points logic"… The tortilla is burrito size so I figure at least 3, the veggies are free, the cheese another 3, the beans are maybe 1 and a point for good luck? What do you think?

Office Splurge – October 24, 2006
Well I have a new challenge at work. A few co-workers have a new favorite place to eat, Five Guys famous Burgers. Let me tell you, this place is a grease feast! But the fries are to DIE FOR! I usually bring my lunch so it’s not that big of a deal BUT they always bring some fries back for me to nibble on. I did eat a few today so I estimated my points at 4. I figure that’s what a small fry is at a fast food place so it makes a good estimate.

Hi! Congrats on your success but I wonder why you rely on carbs so much rather than eating more low-fat protein like meat, fish, yogurt, and so on. Just a thought!
Continued good luck to you!
MIA – October 17, 2006
Sorry guys, I’ve been missing in action this week. I have had a lot going on and I may need to take a break from posting daily. I’ve been so swamped that I missed my weigh in and meeting last week but didn’t even realize it until Sunday!
I have a few ideas on redesigning the site and may start working on that off line. I’ll be back when things calm down a bit. I’m also a bit behind on answering emails. I’ll catch up soon. I try to answer everyone’s questions but it takes some time.
I will make a meeting this week and update my weight and progress page.

Hungry Day – October 13, 2006
I have just been hungry ALL day! I don’t know what wrong with me. Friday’s are always tough because I’m off schedule. I didn’t preplan at all so this food journal is from memory today.
I’ll try to post over the weekend but no guarantees. I’m have visitors coming in and I’ll probably be running around like a nut. I’m off to watch a movie and enjoy my popcorn! :)

Working on New Recipe – October 12, 2006
Watching the food network yesterday I saw a show about the pillsbury bake off contest and was inspired! Stupid I know, but I’m liking the challenge of it. They have a "brand new you" category for healthy recipes and I figure why not? So I’m working on a Salisbury steak recipe because my husband loves that meal and I would like a healthier alternative. I tried a few things tonight but it could have been better, it was a little dry. I have awhile before next years contest so I’ll be trying a few more ideas.
Anyway, other then that nothing big happened today. I did splurge on a peanut butter cookie after lunch.
Right now it’s 8:30 and I’m starving. I’ve eaten my 20 points so I’m going to have a snack but I have no idea what. I’m shooting for about 4 points. Probably popcorn again unless I can find something better. :)

Back on Track – October 11, 2006
I feel better already. Just because I tracked. I did get a nice workout in this morning and ate really healthy. I did have a case of the munches tonight but I stuck with good choices. My go to is always a bag of popcorn because it can take me a whole hour to eat it. It’s perfect for munchies like me. :)
I’m off to plan tomorrow. Good Night.

Disastrous – October 10, 2006
The last 3 days have been Disastrous!!! A wedding and visitors over the weekend. Pizza, cake, bagels AACK!!! I’m going to get right back on track and start posting my food journals for the rest of the week.
Last week I started more structured exercise routines. A lot of people ask me how I work out and my answer was always "I stay active". Which is true but I feel like a need a more consistent work out routine especially with winter coming. My night time walks will be cut short and we probably won’t get out as much on the weekends. I added a new section called workouts to track my progress.
Stop back tomorrow night to see my daily food journal. Until Then. :)
I Made It! – October 7, 2006
I made it to a meeting today! I’m glad I did, I lost 1.8 pounds. The meeting was a little dry, we talked about nutrition. I’m always surprised at the lack of knowledge when it comes to food and nutritional labels. I don’t buy or eat much that I don’t make a conscience decision to eat by reading the ingredients and nutritional info. It just became a habit.
I added another product to the food finds section. I forgot about this great sugar free jelly I tried. It goes great with the bagels and cream cheese I also had recommendation from a visitor to try Alternative Bagel. I’m going to look for them next weekend but Steph said she can find them at Albertsons or Stater
Brothers. I don’t have them buy me but I wanted to pass on the info.
Comment from Carolyn on 10/8/2006 7:44:08 AM
I have that jelly! It’s so good you don’t even realize it’s sugar free.

Hi, Melinda! I read that you were going to your first meeting. How did you do? I just put my son (280 lbs, 12 years old) on weight watchers and we are gung ho!! Does anyone else have any experience with children and W.W.? thanks, Angel

Comment from Jess on 10/13/2006 11:41:57 AM
Hi – let me know when you find/try the alternative bagels – I heard of them thru Hungry Girl and I can’t find them anywhere so I was going to order them online but you have to have a min order of 6 packages and if they are not good then what a waste! They have onion and blueberry – YUM! I have been over 1 year w/o having them because the pnts for a real one are NOT worth it!!!!
Comment from Kim on 10/14/2006 8:54:37 PM
The Alternative Bagels are wonderful! If you have to order them, they are still worth it. 1 pt per bagel. They make an excellent bagel sandwich with turkey and laughing cow for lunch. Good luck!

Sorry, Got Busy – October 5, 2006
I’m so sorry. I had all intentions of posting my daily food journal this week but I got too busy. My weekend doesn’t look much better either. I’m not sure I’m going to make weigh in this week. Tomorrow I’m going to try and squish a visit to weight watchers in the morning. If so I’ll post an update.

New Week – October 1, 2006
‘m starting a fresh week after a pretty out of control weekend. Just in a mood to munch! So today went pretty well. I made my homemade spaghetti sauce, and my husband is psyched! He loves a good pasta meal. I stick with measuring out 2 ounces of whole wheat pasta for myself and cooking it in a smaller pot. That way there is no mistakes. I can get a little nuts when it comes to pasta.
As for breakfast today I was surprised to find Kix a low point option. I bought them for my son who is getting sick of Cheerios and when I calculated the points it’s only 2 for over a cup! And that’s a lot of kix! I’m pretty impressed.
I’m off to plan tomorrows lunch I already know I’ll be having pasta again for dinner as my husbands a fiend!

Finally my first Farro idea! I have to say, I love this stuff! It's chewy and yummy and, well, fun! I tossed it with what I could find in my pantry and it made a wonderfully satisfying lunch. Filling but not heavy, tasty and quite nutrient dense. According to NutritionData.com this [...] -

*sigh* I was really hoping to share an awesome turkey burger idea. I had grand plans for my leftover ground turkey. The results was alright but they could have been so much better. I made this on a total whim yesterday having no idea if it would work. To my surprise it did AND the husband actually said he liked it... UNSOLICITED! Here's the story. I had only 4 tilapia fillets defrosted for dinner. I knew it wasn't going to be enough for us [...] -
This is a slight reboot of a recipe I posted last year simply called Sweet Potato and Black Bean Chili. Staying true to my use-what-I-have-on-hand roots I, well, used what I had on hand and made a similar dish with a spicy twist. Topping the result with avocado added a cool creaminess that [...] -
Did you hear? The Laughing Cow recently launched Smooth Sensations a line of 5 cream cheese spreads. Confession time, I recorded a 30 minute video making this with both kids (partally) 2 nights ago. I miss videos. I really do but they seem so much more difficult with 2 children. Yesterday I was dreaming about a salad. Not just any salad, but a chickpea filled, cucumber, and red onion salad with a fun, tangy dressing. Unfortunately, I had no cucumber or red onion. Well, that's a lie. I had a half of cucumber but it was a mushy mess and [...] -
Dinner meals are getting harder and harder for me to share lately. Your points total wasn’t bad. I don’t count points much-I’m doing Core. But had to count for a bag of WW chocolate crowns tonight as well as a pita with pb & organic jam.
